Dark Light

In my previous blog post, Designing for Fat Bodies, I talked about how my approach to designing is directed by my fatness. This is particularly relevant when designing garments, and the introduction of garments into my pattern line-up will bring some administrative changes. Today, I wanted to talk about those changes.

Garments are definitely coming!

Roseability’s testing is underway and I’m hard at work on the next garment design. I have a few ideas lined up that I’m working through, trying to pair them up with the perfect yarns, turning them over in my head and making sure they’re the best they can be. I can’t share any details just yet, but let’s say that there are copped and long ones, jumpers and cardigans, and also some tees and tops!

Roseability is pencilled in to be launched in July.

Test knits have changed

Speaking of test knitting, I needed to work differently to manage the number of testers that 12 sizes of a garment requires. You can read all about that here.

Garment patterns will cost more

My accessory patterns are priced at £5. Designing and writing up a garment is significantly more work than an accessory, so garment patterns will be priced at £10. It’s at least ten times the work, so I think this price is a good balance between value for my work, and affordability for most.

As always, if you’re feeling generous, Pay What You Want pricing will let you increase that price.

As always, if you can’t afford to pay for the pattern, you can claim a copy for free using Pay It Forward.

Note: PIF claims for garment patterns will be fulfilled with 2 contributions, so that the amount contributed matches the amount claimed.

Size inclusivity is the most important thing

All of my garment patterns will be size inclusive – both in terms of the range of sizes, and in terms of the approach to sizing and proportions. Wherever possible, proportions will be customisable. I’m spending a lot of time thinking over the usual construction methods, trying to see if there are ways to separate areas of sizing (like I’ve done with the body and sleeves for Roseability) or easy ways to perform specific adjustments (like a full bicep adjustment).

I’m so excited to continue down this path and can’t wait to show you the results!
